What is a Septic to Sewer Conversion?

ec-sewer-hookupYou better watch out, you better not cry. You better not pout, I’m tellin’ you why. The city sewer is comin’ to town! Ok, it may not be as exciting as Santa Claus, but it does have some advantages. As towns grow and infrastructures are built, the addition of a sewer system makes a lot of sense, and it eliminates the need for a septic system. This may affect you if you live in a town going through this kind of expansion, but don’t fret. Wind River has everything you need to make a smooth transition.

What Needs to be done?
In a nutshell, the line from your house to the septic tank must be rerouted to the main sewer line. This can be a lot more challenging than it sounds when you consider potential obstacles. There could be trees, driveways or retaining walls in place preventing easy access to the lines. How far and deep is the sewer line in relation to your home? The farther away it is, the more difficult it may be to make the switch. The septic tank itself must be pumped out and filled with dirt or removed altogether. The entire process can be completed in 3-5 days, and ideally, you would only be without wastewater service for a couple of hours.

I Don’t Wanna Deal With This
That’s actually a good thing. Making the conversion from septic to sewer can be tricky and is not something you should attempt on your own. Heavy equipment will be needed for excavating or moving large obstructions. You will need the expertise of an a license contractor who can engineer and execute the project safely and according to code. Our Wind River engineers are available to assist you with everything from permitting and plans to the actual connection to sewer.
