“Boost” Treatment: Why You Need One for Your Septic System

No-one likes to think of doing maintenance in the place where our waste goes, but it IS absolutely necessary. Whether you have a residential or commercial septic system, proper maintenance is recommended to be completed once every 1-2 years.

Over time, the contents of your septic system or cess pool will (pardon the pun) pile up and need to be pumped. How soon this happens depends on many different factors, but it will need to be done at some point. Here at Wind River Environmental, we have a 3-step system which utilizes Boost.

What is Boost, and How Does it Help Your Septic System?

Everyone’s heard of the ‘good’ bacteria that are inside our stomachs, right? Well, our septic systems have them too. Only the things we use inside our homes to get rid of bad bacteria, such as anti-bacterial soap, bleach, and other household cleaners also remove this good bacteria from our septic systems. Boost can help with the reduction of these good bacterias. According to the National Small Flows Clearinghouse, we know that “based on available literature, enzymatic products might have the ability to reduce the amount of oil and grease in the septic tank. Second, under septic tank bacterial “die-off” conditions, slight reductions in the amount of effluent solids have been achieved by using additives”. To read the full article, please click here.

After your system has been pumped, we add in Boost. Just like a shock treatment for your pool, Boost provides a ‘shock’ to your septic system, introducing enzymes that are awesome at breaking down organic waste and solids, such as food products from the garbage disposal.

Let’s focus on the pool analogy for a second. Even if you do everything right, keep your pH levels in balance, strain the leaves and drowned critters, and make your kids get OUT of the pool before they pee, you still need to give it a shock treatment pretty often, right? It’s the same with your septic system. Even if you don’t have a garbage disposal, even if you do proper system maintenance, even if you use biodegradable toilet paper, your system is still going to need a boost to function at its best.
