Dangers of a Drain Clog
Clogs keep your sewage within your home's water system, which increases the likelihood that the wastewater will re-enter your home's fixtures and cause potentially serious health issues. Having a clog in your main sewer line also puts an immediate stop to using your home's plumbing system (or it should – if you're using your plumbing still, you're taking a fairly risky gamble).
Identify the Severity of Your Drain Clog
- If only one fixture is clogged, then the clog is located close to the fixture's drain.
- If only one room's fixtures are clogged, then the drain is further into the system, but not as far as the main sewer line.
- If fixtures from multiple rooms are clogged, your main sewer line is clogged – and you have a plumbing emergency on your hands.
Toilets are the fixtures with the most direct line to your sewer line. If your toilet is seriously clogged (and normal household methods haven't worked), then it's more likely that you have a main line clog.
