Wind River Environmental Town Spotlight: Keene, NH

January 12, 2018

Keene, NH: A Quaint New England Town

Keene, NH is a quintessential New England college town, where 5,400 students make up 1/4 of the population. Downtown Keene features the impressive white spire of the landmark United Church of Christ in classical New England tradition. The Colonial Theater was saved from demolition by a dedicated group of Keene residents and continues to be a hub for film and live entertainment since opening its doors in 1924.

A walk down Main Street takes you through a vibrant downtown with quaintly named shops such as Ye Goodie Shoppe and Life is Sweet Candy Store. Pizza aficionados can get the best around at Amicci’s, and antique hunters can browse the consignment stalls at Colony Hill Marketplace to their heart’s content.

Our Wind River Environmental team is happy to be a part of the Keene, NH community. We’re doing our part to help with responsible wastewater management to preserve the environment of this fine old New England town.

Septic Pumping Services for Keene, NH

Environmental responsibility starts at home when it comes to septic systems. Your septic system is your individual wastewater treatment system. It properly disposes of liquid waste and captures the solids known as sludge for safe disposal. The septic tank is the heart of your septic system, and it separates the sludge and allows only the liquid (effluent) waste to be naturally reabsorbed by your leach field.

The best advice we can offer any homeowner with a septic system is to pump the tank regularly. If sludge is allowed to accumulate unchecked, it can pile up to the point that flow to and from the septic tank is disrupted. This causes unhealthy backflow to the house or release of solid waste to the surrounding property. If sludge makes its way to the distribution pipes in the leach field, the clogging it causes can require extensive and costly repairs.
