It Could be Time for a Grease Interceptor Replacement!

What is FOG?

It is a reality of life that fat, oil and grease end up in the plumbing system. No matter how hard you try, fat, oil and grease (FOG) make their way off the plates and into the drain. FOG is one of the main reasons drains become clogged and sewage overflows. To try to lessen the impact of FOG, restaurants and other facilities with food service must have a grease interceptor or grease trap. The function of this trap is to catch the FOG and separate it from the water.  If it does its job properly, then it helps prevent clogs and sewage overflows.

The Problem With a Metal Grease Interceptor

Many grease traps are made of metal. However, this is not the best material for a grease interceptor. When the FOG begins to break down, it becomes very acidic. It can be as acidic as stomach acid, which is about 1-2 pH. This corrosive material can quickly make an impact on metal. Additionally, the effluent that enters a grease trap often contains other strong chemicals like bleach or cleaning chemicals. These immediately begin to corrode a metal grease trap. Corrosion can be detrimental because minimally it can result in odors as seals are corrupted or at the very worst it can cause leaks. The escape of odors can attract pests like rodents, flies, or cockroaches.

Wind River Environmental Can Fix Your Grease Interceptor Problems!
