How Often Should You Jet Your Main Plumbing Line?

Keeping your plumbing line clear and free of clogs is vital. When you start discovering that the drains don’t work as well as they used to, chances are you will bring in a professional to examine the problem and propose solutions. When that happens, they might propose jetting the line.

But what does that mean? How does jetting differ from regular snaking of the pipe, and how often should you jet your main plumbing line? Keep reading for answers to all of these questions.

What is Line Jetting?

You are probably familiar with the most common way of cleaning out a clog in your pipes: snaking. Hydro jetting puts more power behind the process, using a high-pressure hose with a specialized nozzle that can produce enough power to clear the drain. When the power is high enough, it can even flush tree roots out of your plumbing line.

When Does My Plumbing Line Need Jetted?

Generally speaking, the power behind this process makes it ideal to remove tough clogs. If, for instance, debris like grease or hair causes your main line to clog entirely, a hand snake or auger might not be enough to solve the problem. Instead, you need the power that a hydro jet drain cleaning can provide.

The other benefit of this process is that it does not have to be reactionary. Some of our clients schedule yearly jetting of their main plumbing lines so that they will no longer have to worry about clogs. This preventative care can keep your pipes clean and free of any debris, removing even the possibility of clogs.

Yearly maintenance is ideal. But even if you only take advantage of the technology once something is wrong, opting for jetting your main lines will be well worth the investment. The lasting results, particularly compared to hand-based solutions, speak for themselves.
