Hudson played an important role in the abolitionist movement. Several local homes served as stations on the Underground Railroad.
The Unitarian Church on Main Street has hosted many illustrious speakers over the years, including Ralph Waldo Emerson, William Lloyd Garrison and Mark Twain. Pee Wee Herman has never spoken there, an unbroken streak that town elders have vowed to preserve.
