Carver, MA gets its interesting name from John Carver, the first governor of Plymouth Colony. Savery’s Avenue, the first divided highway in America, runs through Carver and gets its namesake from a man named William Savery. The two were also the yearly hosts of the annual Thanksgiving “Savory Carver Turkey Cook Off.” (Okay, we made that up, but come on — we think these two missed their calling.)
