In 1780 the area of Barre was chartered to William Williams and 60 others and given the name Wildersburgh. Thirteen years later the first town meeting was held and either by auction to the highest bidder or a good old fist fight, the town name was changed to Barre.
We don’t like to brag (ha) but Wind River is pretty sought-after for all things septic related. Luckily for you, we have enough trained technicians (297 to be exact) to go around. Although entertaining, you won’t have to fist fight anyone for septic service.
Barre’s discovery of vast granite deposits after the War of 1812 led to the town’s self-proclaimed title “Granite Center of the World.” The largest granite deposit, 4 miles long, 2 miles wide, and 10 miles deep soon became famous and brought in residents from around the world. Wind River is an expert in a different type of underground deposits, though we don’t believe any citizens from abroad would be as intrigued.
