Charlotte, NC – History to NASCAR, Charlotte’s Got A Lot

November 15, 2019

In the South-central section of North Carolina, you’ll find the hard to miss city of Charlotte. The most populated city in the state with a population of 859,035 as of 2017. The populated area makes up just about 298 square miles of Mecklenburg County. Originally the area was inhabited by the Native American, Catawban Tribe in the 1600’s but was eventually settled by the British in the mid 1700’s. The state was part of the original 13 colonies but the area now known as Charlotte wasn’t incorporated until 1768 and officially became a state in 1789.

The British the settled the area had named it after Charlotte of Mecklenburg-Strelitz, who was the Queen of British King George III. Today the city still holds onto its nickname “The Queen City”. Though the city may not be full of royalty, the opportunities within its borders are endless. Whether you want high-speed thrills at an amusement park, a relaxing afternoon at a craft brewery, white-water rafting adventures, or a quiet walk through the woods. it’s all possible in or around the city of Charlotte, North Carolina, after all, the cities slogan is “Charlotte’s Got A Lot”.

Carowinds Amusement Park in Charlotte, just on the boarder of South Carolina is home to the worlds tallest and fastest giga coaster. Fury325 reaches 325 feet and speeds at a whopping 95 mph. The roller coaster is also North America’s longest steel roller coaster with over 1.25 miles of track. The amusement park offers more gentle rides for those who aren’t into insane heights and speeds.

In Downtown Charlotte, you’ll have your choice of activity depending on your mood at the time. One might choose to visit the NASCAR Hall of Fame where owners and drivers with exceptional skill are honored. Visit one of the seemingly endless museums to choose from like science, history, modern art museums. After viewing some history maybe you’re ready for a craft beer, or a world-class meal at one of the many restaurants. Charlotte is home to over 25 breweries, some of which are award-winning.

Even with such a big city, there are plenty of places to escape the hustle and bustle of the city life. According to CharlottesGotALot, there are over 200 beautiful parks and nature preserves in Mecklenburg County for the more outdoorsy type. Each park offers something different from outdoor concerts, playgrounds for the kids, or even just peace and quiet.

Many home buyers seek the more rural parts of the big city where single-family homes are common. Within the quieter neighborhoods, most properties have an onsite wastewater system (septic system) on site.
