Community Events and Sponsorship
At Wind River Environmental, it’s important to us that we make a difference. But we don’t want to limit that to just sewage!
We’re happy to say we’ve made a company commitment to giving back. Among our charity efforts you’ll find frequent company participation with Habitat for Humanity, our annual “Wind River Gives Back” Thanksgiving Dinner, and a variety of other community events.
Wind River’s August Go Fund Me campaign to support the Jimmy Fund Radio-Telethon raised over $10,000, and CEO John O’Connell matched $10,000 of that contribution for a grand total of $20,422! Listen to John’s guest appearance on WEEI Sports Radio to hear more!
Wind River is a proud sponsor of the Boston Red Sox with WEEI 93.7 FM. Legendary Boston sports commentator Joe Castiglione enjoys Wind River: “Wind River Environmental is New England’s major league choice when it comes to the most professional residential and commercial septic and grease pumping services. They are the industry leader in non-hazardous waste disposal and have almost 70 years of experience in the septic industry. I became a Wind River customer long before they started sponsoring our Red Sox radio starting lineups. You can count on Wind River to deliver the save!”
TOYS FOR TOTS
Toys for Tots has become an annual holiday tradition and one in which Wind River employees and their families eagerly participate each year. Companywide we donated over 200 toys to the organization, all managed by twenty of our Pennsylvania branch staff.
TOUCH A TRUCK
Trucks! Kids love them (as do many adults). And while looking at them is fun, climbing aboard is amazing! Wind River brought two trucks to this annual event in Wayland, MA, giving kids the chance to touch, climb and, of course, honk the horns!!
OUR ANNUAL SUMMIT PROGRAM
TOUR DE LYME
Not lime … Lyme! We jumped in as a Silver Sponsor of the Tour de Lyme Cycling Race, held in Lyme, Connecticut. This annual event helps support the Lyme Land Conservation Trust and this year included 725 eager riders on both road and mountain bikes.
Friends of the Trust and residents of Lyme have donated land, dollars and lots of hard work to acquire and protect nearly 3,000 acres of woodlands, craggy hills, working farm fields and bird-filled marshes, resulting in an outdoor paradise for hiking, biking, hunting, fishing and more – open to us all.
GIVINGFEST FOOD DRIVE
Thanksgiving is a wonderful holiday, but it can also be financially challenging. That’s why we organized a company-wide food drive, donating 1,318 food items to families in New England, Connecticut, and New Jersey.
CANTON, MA CONCERT SERIES
What’s not to love about summer music?! Wind River sponsored the Canton Concert Series, held at the Village Shoppes in Canton, MA. There were free concerts held every Tuesday evening in July.
BARREL AID PROJECT
Got some old, worn sneakers around the house? Barrel Aid collects and sends these – in their trademark blue barrel – to Haiti. After the shoes have been distributed, the barrels are fitted with an easy-to-use gravity filter for capturing clean rain water.
Our Wind River team members collected over 70 pairs of sneakers, helping Barrel Aid supply sneakers, fresh water, food, schooling and hope for over 1,600 children in Southern Haiti.
THE MISSION CONTINUES: PUB & GAME NIGHT
May, 2013, Worcester, MA
The Wind River team hosted a Pub and Game Night Charity Event in Worcester, MA to raise funds for The Mission Continues, a nonprofit organization that awards community service fellowships to veterans, allowing them to work with local nonprofit organizations and gain a renewed sense of purpose on their return home. With the help of sponsors and attendees, we raised over $10,000!
That night, we helped fellowship alumnus, Toby Mogavero. Toby served his fellowship with Peregrine Fund World Center for the Birds of Prey, an organization that saves birds from extinction. Tony is currently in school studying environmental studies and plans to pursue a master’s in environmental management from the University of Maryland.

SANDY HOOK RUN FOR THE FAMILIES
March 2013, Harford, CT
More than 60 Wind River employees and family members, from as far away as Maine and New Jersey, volunteered for the first Sandy Hook Run. This event, which raised money for the families of the Sandy Hook, CT tragedy, was more than just a run. It was about celebrating life, honoring the memory of precious lives lost through tragedy and uniting in hope for the future.
With 15,000 participants and thousands of spectators, the event raised $438,131 for the Sandy Hook School Support Fund. We were honored to be part of such an important day.

WIND RIVER GIVES BACK THANKSGIVING DINNER
November 2012, Y.O.U. Inc – Worcester, MA & Springfield, MA
Wind River donated complete Thanksgiving Dinners to 320 families during the holiday season. We also volunteered to distribute meals and host a pre-holiday party with family-fun activities, making for a wonderful, family-focused celebration.

HABITAT FOR HUMANITY
September 2012, Peabody, MA
We can operate a septic pump with the best of them; but we can also swing a hammer. That’s why we shut down operations for the day (other than emergency coverage) to help the North Shore Habitat for Humanity. Based in Lynn, MA, this local chapter is dedicated to the nonprofit’s overall conviction that every man, woman and child should have a decent, safe and affordable place to live. They build with (and for) people in need regardless of race or religion.
Ninety Wind River volunteers joined in to make this build day the largest ever. Volunteers came out to help build four homes for eight families, working on framing, fence building, landscaping, exterior and interior painting, windows, flooring and more!
Thanks to our friends at the North Shore Habitat for Humanity for a wonderful day together.
