I Have A Broken Underground Pipe. Can I Repair It Without Digging Up My Property?

A leaking or corroded underground pipe is a certain sign of a major problem with a residential plumbing system. Regardless the type of water pipe, it needs to be repaired to avoid serious health and environmental consequences. Fortunately, experienced plumbers have savvy techniques that can repair the pipe without digging up your entire yard. Learn more below, and then schedule pipelining services with one of Wind River Environmental’s experienced plumbers.

Trenchless Pipe Repair

One popular technique used by professional plumbers for repairing a broken underground pipe is trenchless pipe repair. This technique involves locating the access point of the pipe and inserting a resin or acrylic patching material and maneuvering it into the place where the crack or damage is located. The plumbers may first send a video cable through the pipe to pinpoint the location of the problem. This process is quick and affordable and only requires that the cracked areas get repaired.

Underground Pipe Relining

Another technique that plumbers may use to repair a broken underground pipe is relining. If the existing pipe has a wide enough diameter, the plumbers may be able to insert a new liner into the pipe. This technique works for pipes that are cracked, broken or displaced. The pipe lining cures in place and can be used to repair pipes made from clay, cast iron, PVC, HDPE or concrete. This process seals connections and small gaps that can be penetrated by tree roots. It also creates a smooth surface through which the water can flow.

Horizontal Boring

Horizontal boring is another way that experienced plumbers can repair or replace a broken underground pipe without digging up your property. The broken pipe is located and broken sections are removed through horizontal boring. Guided by specialty cameras, the pilot rods then deliver the new section of pipe into place. Adhesive resins are mixed on-site and impregnated into the new pipe to seal junctions. Only one access point is needed and no trench is made in this method of repair.

Each method of trenchless pipe repair offers the benefit of minimal disturbance to your property and prompt completion of the project. For more information on plumbing emergency underground pipe repair, go to Pipelining Services or you can contact Wind River Environmental.
