Helping JDRF's Walk to Cure Diabetes

Each year, more than 15,000 children and 15,000 adults - approximately 80 people per day - are diagnosed with type 1 diabetes (T1D) in the United States.  Two of our employees are taking on the challenge to help cure type 1 diabetes by joining the 5k walk with JDRF. The walk will be held in Worcester on October 14, 2012. To join the walk or donate to the cause to help as many as 3 million Americans that have T1D please visit the JDRF website.

The First Annual Clubs 4 Covs Memorial Golf Classic will take place on Friday, September 28, 2012 at the Wayland Country Club.  This year the event will raise money for the Watertown Boys and Girls Club in Adam Scott Coveney’s memory in order to help them continue to offer programs and services to the 800 youth members they serve in our community. The Learning Center for the Deaf’s mission is to ensure that deaf and hard-of-hearing students achieve their full potential in an educational environment where language and communication are keys to building competence, character and community. The 15th Annual Golf Benefit will be held on Monday October 15th 2012 at the Charter Oak Country Club in Hudson, MA. The Pan-Massachusetts Challenge, presented by the Boston Red Sox Foundation and New Balance, is the nation’s original fundraising bike-a-thon and today raises more money than any other athletic fundraising event in the country. The PMC is a model of fundraising efficiency. Since 2007, the PMC has donated 100% of every rider-raised dollar directly to cancer research and treatment at Dana-Farber Cancer Institute through its Jimmy Fund.  The 2012 Pan-Mass Challenge Race will be held on August 4th and 5th. The New Balance Falmouth Road Race celebrates its 40th year and the spirit which made the first Falmouth so special is still present today. More than 10,000 runners will gather in Woods Hole for the 2012 renewal, including many of the world's elite, though the essence of the event remains a fun run. Back-of-the-pack joggers share the road with the best, forming a tapestry of colors from the start on Water Street to the finish at the beach in Falmouth Heights. This race includes one part sporting spectacle, one part festive family outing and a dash of sun, sea, and splash.  A star-spangled celebration of red-hot competition and fun-in-the-sun holiday atmosphere in one of the most picturesque towns on the Cape. Thanks to the help and support of Alternatives, hundreds of Central Massachusetts residents with psychiatric or developmental disabilities are leading full and successful lives within their communities. Their staff and volunteers are committed to offering not just superior services, but real opportunities for people in need, including many who were formerly institutionalized. Alternatives provides the necessary skills and support for people to achieve these basic human desires. Currently, they serve more than 1,200 individuals in 55 programs in the region, helping them to start each day with a personalized plan for improving their lives. The 2012 Valley Friendship Tour was held on May 19th  through the beautiful and historic Blackstone Valley and was a huge success!
